If I am asked what I love best about printable miniature, I would say my favourite is renovating the dollhouse interior, especially the kitchen.
Since it’s all made with paper it’s very easy and inexpensive to do, and I also find paper crafting to be therapeutic and really satisfying as I marvel at my creations later on.
You do need a bit of patience as you are working with some small pieces, but the dollhouse kitchen counter itself is really straight forward so it is quick to do.
Previously I created a black kitchen which at the time I really loved – probably because of the season (it was in winter)!
But I recently started to switch to something bright, so I decided to go for a white cabinet with the wooden pattern top.
This design won’t consume as much ink as the black cabinet which is a nice bonus!
If you are thinking of doing some dollhouse DIY, furnitures that are made up of straight lines are the easiest to make, such as the dollhouse kitchen cabinets, tables, bed frames and even drawers.
A tissue box can be turned into a 1/4 scale cabinet or a 1/6 scale bed.
If you have some firm card stock paper, you can fold it into a box of the size you’d like, and print out some design to go on it.
To make it look more real, the trick is to have some details on the boxes.
Patterns such as wood grains, marble and rattan go well if you are after some modern looking furnitures.
I find that with dollhouse miniatures, minimalist approach don’t work very well – at least for me!
The more dollhouse accessories there are in the room, the more real the space tends to look.
So have fun in adding more items at your pace, there is no need for any mess-guilt in a dollhouse!
Paper Dollhouse DIY doesn’t stop at the furnitures. A lot of miniature food packaging and other items look better with paper than plastic or resin.
If you are not sure where to start, you can always check out my free miniatures printables and take it from there!
It’s a lot of fun especially when you know that it’s easy on your wallet as well as the environment.
