As I set out to style the dollhouse bathroom of the IKEA dollhouse, one piece that was making me hugely procrastinate was the toilet.
With paper, it’s always the case that the curves are not easy to achieve.
Straight, boxed shapes are much easier to make, so I scrolled through Pinterest to see if someone has come up with a cleverly shaped rectangular toilet but – nope! No such thing.
So I set about trying to come up with an easy-to-make toilets with a curve.
Never have I thought that – I would be staring at my toilet time and again (all day!!), studying the shape and how it curves.
The most difficult was the toilet bowl and how it curves around the whole thing.
I have lost count of how many times I have gone to the toilet just to stare at the bowl – 20 times? 30? 40?
I got fed up and almost gave up, thinking paper can never imitate what ceramics can achieve.
I was going between “this is ridiculous, what am I doing making teeny little toilets!” to “I have made so many things with paper, I can do this too” – the weird kind of paper crafter ego coming out of me.
I started feeling delirious, imagining if this is how Thomas Edison felt when he tried 1000 times to invent a light bulb.
So how does it look, my miniature friends?
My dollhouse toilet may not save the world but who knows, it may become THE thing in the dollhouse and crafters’ world!
